Hello friends
Can you believe it’s the first of February already? Where has January gone? It’s also the last month to enjoy the remaining summer days as we head towards Autumn.
This week’s paintings include herbs, kimonos, crochet and tulips.
Oregano
Inspired by this delightful herb, the painting is an experiment with various shades of greens.
Pink Crochet Shawl
Pink crochet shawl on a green hanger. I loved sketching and painting this. It was a very quick sketch and the black from the pen ran a little when I applied the paint. Lesson learnt – wait until the ink has dried before you paint.
Kimono
The Kimono is inspired by a photo is a magazine. This sketch was an experiment in colors and squares. The design is very simple and the interaction between the colors was interesting.
Pink Tulips
It does not matter how many times I draw tulips I never get tired of them. While their shape is relatively easy to sketch, capturing the pale pinks and whites of the tulips petals is extremely difficult .
Strawberries with blue spoons
The blues in this watercolour were a delight to work with. I’d like to paint this again but this time using good quality watercolour paper and taking more time with the drawing.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall
Experiment with blues, greens and light oranges.
Cats
Cats are hard to draw. In fact one of the cats, the one on the right sitting down looks more like a rabbit than a cat – lol. Does not matter, next time I will draw his ears smaller. Lots more practise required.
The design is not my own. I was inspired to try my own version of a painting drawn by one of my favourite illustrators – Jennifer Orkin Lewis. Her work is gorgeous and she is such an inspiration.
Wishing you a lovely Sunday and a great week ahead for the first week of February 2015.
Your water colors are gorgeous!
Thanks Sally!
