Hydrangeas, tea and granny squares

How lovely to see the Hydrangeas growing in the garden again. This weekend was relaxing and lovely. The sun came out and at last there was a hint of summer warmth in the air. It’s been a wet and very windy spring but at least its good for the garden.

With the warmer days fast approaching I thought it would be good to crochet a granny square blanket for our king size bed in white cotton. Unlike many blankets made from many small granny squares, this blanket will be a giant blanket made using one square which gradually gets bigger and bigger. It’s such an easy blanket to crochet and there is no messing around with having to put all the squares together once you have made them. I am using a 3.50 crochet hook with white 4 ply “Heirloom” cotton. It will take me a while to make the blanket but it will be lovely sleeping under a lovely cotton blanket on hot summer nights.

The Purl Bee has a great pattern for a giant granny square blanket made with merino wool in different colors. Click on the picture below to go directly to the pattern and instructions.

Enjoy your week!
