2015 is the year to knit a string of words. Not just any words. Words of strength.
Each month will feature a word of strength. While these words are my words, they could resonate for you too. During the month focus on the word and let it work for you. Let the word have meaning in your life. Let it guide you in your life if you need it. Praise yourself when you find yourself using the word to support you in your life.
If you want to knit and stitch along here are the details;
- 4 ply wool (you could use any wool you have left over)
- Knitting needles size 3.25
- Crochet hook
- A few buttons
- Cotton floss
Here’s how to make the knitted square:
- Cast on 24 stitches then knit the garter stitch which is one of the easiest stitch patterns in knitting.
- Garter stitch is achieved by knitting every row. If you don’t know how to knit this stitch then visit “How to Knit Garter stitch”.
- Knit until your piece measures around 14cm long or 5.5 inches.
- Take your chosen ribbon and hand sew onto the knitted piece.
- Embroider the word of the month on the knitted square.
- Embellish with a few buttons, pins or beads. Anything that inspires you.
March – “Joy”
Do you have enough Joy in your life?
What does the word “Joy” mean for you? It’s such a happy word that it needed a bright color for the knitted square. Orange is the prefect color. The word “Joy” is embroidered in bright orange cotton floss on yellow and white gingham. The three safety pins have tiny green beads on once side and are attached to the wool square with bright green tapestry wool. The pale pink row of roses was something I added because I liked the roses and thought they worked well with the orange. There is joy in being able to create without any boundaries or rules.
Have you found “Joy” in your life this month?
February – “Love”
Valentine’s day is a time for love and romance. The word love can be romantic love but it’s also about love in general. It’s about loving others and loving yourself. Have you been loving towards others in your life this month? If not why not?
It’s ok to acknowledge that you no longer love someone you used to love. Sometimes love fades away and sometimes love goes away particularly when we are treated badly. It’s also ok to acknowledge that you no longer love your job and you need a change.
What about self love? That can be a challenging concept for some people. Making decisions about your life and things that are good for you sometimes involves changing your relationships and making decisions that others around you won’t like. Self love is about reflection and having the courage to make changes which may be difficult and challenging.
Self love is also about looking after your health. If you have chosen to eat or drink too much this month ask yourself why. Why don’t you love yourself enough to make the right choices for every aspect of you?
January – “Courage”
January’s word is “Courage”. Courage is the ability and willingness to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. How often do you show courage in your life? Do you need to be a little more courageous from time to time? If you have not been as courageous as you would have liked to be, ask yourself why. Do you think you could be more courageous this month? How could you express your courage?
