Making a mini patchwork pincushion – part 1

It’s been a long time since I made anything out of patchwork. I recently bought some fabrics in similar tones of blue, pink, green, purple and orange and thought they would be perfect to make a mini patchwork pincushion.  The fabrics range is Bandana by “moda”

I decided on hexigons because I found a pack of them already pre-cut at my local craft store. You can cut out your own if you have the time. Remember the bigger the pincushion the more fabric hexigons you will have to cut and sew together.

To make the pincushion – Part 1

  1. Pin the paper hexigons to your chosen fabrics.
  2. Cut the fabric around the hexigon leaving an inch all around.
  3. Fold your fabric on one side over the edge of the hexigon and sew the fabric by hand with a basting stitch. Fold the corner over and continue to all around.
  4. Continue steps 1 to 3 until you have the desired number of hexigons.
  5. Lay out all your hexigons and find a pattern arrangements that you like.

I will finish the pincushion by the end of November and share how to finish it off with you in part 2.

See you tomorrow!
